It’s the most wonderful time of the year

Posted on

We took a vote here in our office and surprisingly fall time received the most votes for favorite season of the year. One would think being Minnesotans that summer would be the favorite or even spring. But no, fall is. Fall is the most wonderful time of the year. Whether it be the fresh feeling of new school clothes, the change in colors, or a relief from humidity and heat; fall time means the premier of many things.

If fall isn’t the best time of the year, then what is? Winter and celebrating Christmas is pretty great, Summer and the  4th of July is hard to beat, even spring is enjoyable with all the new growth….

Add your two cents and take our poll!

Tornado Day- April 14th

Posted on

As most of you know June 17th, 2011 will mark the one year anniversary of the F4 Tornados that hit multiple towns in Minnesota. On April 14th Minnesota will partake in a statewide Tornado Drill Day. With Spring well on its way (finally) the mixture of warming up temperatures and a cold winds will create for a mixture of severe storm warnings across the state. prepare your family for the upcoming season with a few Tornado safety tips:

BEFORE THE TORNADO A tornado watch highlights an area where tornadoes are likely to develop. Continue your normal activities during a tornado watch, but keep track of the latest weather reports, and be ready to get to a shelter. Tornadoes develop quickly.

IN THE HOME Go to the basement. Get under a table, work bench, or some other sturdy furniture to protect yourself from falling debris. A stairwell is also a good place to hide during a tornado.

IF YOU CANNOT GET TO A BASEMENT Go to a small, interior room on the lowest floor. Closets, bathrooms and interior halls afford the best protection in most cases. Get under something sturdy or cover yourself with blankets, and stay away from windows.

IN AN APARTMENT , SCHOOL OR OFFICE BUILDING Move to the lowest level, to the innermost room — or go to a pre-designated shelter area. Stay away from windows! In a hallway, crouch down and protect your head from flying debris. Avoid areas with glass and large expanses of roof with no supports.

IN A MOBILE HOME, CAR, TRUCK OR OTHER VEHICLE Abandon your mobile home or vehicle as quickly as possible and find a sturdy shelter — preferably a permanent structure. Avoid bridges – they act as wind tunnels People who try to escape a tornado by driving away in a vehicle often don’t make it.; they get caught in deadly winds.

IF YOU ARE OUTSIDE WITHOUT SHELTER  Lie flat in a nearby ditch or depression and cover your head with your hands. Be aware of the potential for flooding. Do not get under an overpass or bridge. You are safer in a low, flat location. Never try to outrun a tornado in urban or congested areas in a car or truck. Instead, leave the vehicle immediately for safe shelter. Protect yourself from flying debris. Flying debris from tornadoes causes most fatalities and injuries.

Life Insurance

Posted on

Do you have a need for life insurance? Most people today have a common concern on whether they’d be able to find affordable life insurance. The idea of medical exams and lab tests can create a level of stress and unease that may hinder your interest in getting quotes for the much needed financial protection. Statistics show that only 4 in 10 adult Americans own individual life insurance. But that’s not the scary part; Americans, on average, only have three years of replacement income. Your reasons may be different as to why you don’t own a life policy some common reasons why are:

1. You haven’t gotten around to it.

2. You may not want to talk to a life insurance salesperson

3. You don’t like the idea of having to take medical tests.

What you may not know is that life insurance can end up saving those who you love the most from financial disaster if you or whoever you have the life policy on dies. The five major financial needs families have that life insurance fills is:

1.    Final Expenses which can included funeral, hospital, doctor, ambulance expenses.

2.  Family Living Expenses such as food, clothing, auto and home repairs, utilities, insurance premiums, entertainment, medical.

3.  Mortgage. This is a common one covering a family’s mortgage on their home, car loan, home improvement, debt consolidation, business loans, miscellaneous loans… your typical consumer debt.

4.   Education which includes tuition, books, room and board.

5.  Taxes & Fees; income tax, estate tax, legal fees.

Life insurance can immediately provide funds to meet all these very important lifesaving needs. It also creates an immediate estate.

Not all life insurance policies need to have medical exams required. Soderholm Insurance offers many different types of life insurance but our “Simplified Issue” Whole Life policy through Auto Owners Insurance allows us to write a simple life policy with limited or no medical exams required. What’s awesome with the Auto Owners Life products is that we can apply discounts to your home and auto policies when you combine your personal insurance with Auto Owners. A Life policy not only can save your family from financial despair, but it help you save on your home and auto policies as well.

At Soderholm Insurance we don’t only offer your typical insurance lines that most people consider to be the only major insurance needs (auto, home) we offer life, health, disability income insurance, long term care, and annuities. We’re like your Super Target of Insurance Agencies!

Cabin Fever

Posted on

Today is January 26th and we are well into a Minnesota winter. We’ve had more snow so far this year than in the past; about 55 1/2 inches. Our roads continue to be packed with ice, although a recent mini-January-thaw has melted a lot of the ice away. Like most we are beginning to get that cabin fever syndrome and a thirst for warmer sunny weather. Winter travel plans are well on their way, and all the snow birds are enjoying their multiple rounds of golf  far away from Minnesota where temperatures are in highs of 60‘s and 70‘s.

As for those who share in our cabin fever or spring fever whatever you prefer to call it… CAN’T WAIT FOR 70 DEGREE WEATHER fever; here’s to you………..
